Davao City, Philippines — The SinagLarawan Photo Contest continues its nationwide journey with a stop in Davao City, hosting a creative showcase at the Acacia Ballroom 3 of Acacia Hotel Davao. The event welcomed local photographers, creatives, and storytellers for an inspiring afternoon centered on the power of visual storytelling in celebrating Filipino identity.
Now on its third year, SinagLarawan—a combination of the Filipino words “sinag” (ray of light) and “larawan”(image)—has become a significant platform for photographers across the country to depict the values, culture, and traditions that shape the Filipino spirit. As part of JTI Philippines’ Community Investment initiatives, the competition puts a spotlight on the arts, particularly photography, as a means to drive meaningful conversations and foster national pride.

This year’s theme, “Isa sa Isla,” calls on photographers to capture stories rooted in the diverse islands of the Philippines. Each island has its own identity—unique practices, people, and moments that reflect the richness of the Filipino experience. Through this theme, the contest encourages participants to find and frame those singular stories that represent the heart of the archipelago.
The Davao roadshow featured a talk by acclaimed photojournalist Veejay Villafranca, who shared expert tips on theme interpretation, visual composition, and creating emotionally resonant photographs. Attendees gained valuable insights into crafting standout entries, along with a deeper understanding of how photography can be a powerful medium for cultural preservation and storytelling.
SinagLarawan 2025 is open for submissions until September 25, 2025. Photographers from all over the Philippines are invited to participate, whether amateur or professional, to tell their stories and show what it means to be truly Filipino—one image at a time.
The contest is a part of JTI’s broader commitment to sustainability and community development, with a special focus on People, Environment, and Arts & Culture. Through SinagLarawan, photography becomes more than just an art form—it becomes a bridge that connects communities, celebrates identity, and honors heritage.
