We’ve always been big fans of beauty pageants and one queen we’ve admired for years is Siera Bearchell, Miss Universe Canada 2016 and a respected pageant YouTuber. She first caught our attention during the Miss Universe 2016 pageant held in Manila, where she confidently challenged stereotypes and proudly placed in the Top 9.
Siera became a powerful symbol of body positivity and self-love when she stood up against body shaming. She was unapologetic, telling the world, “I am healthy. I am fit. I am confident.” That bold energy resonated with us deeply—and she quickly became one of the few queens we’ve continued to support throughout the years, especially as she began sharing pageant insights on YouTube. Her reaction videos, including her commentary on Catriona Gray in 2018, remain among our favorites.
Recently, however, in a heartfelt YouTube video, Siera shared that she feels Miss Universe is no longer what it used to be. In her opinion, she feels like it has lost much of its credibility, prestige, and the magic that once made it special. She expressed that the pageant now seems more like a business than a meaningful platform. Sierra also voiced similar concerns about Miss Grand International of its the current direction and values of today’s major pageants.
Hearing this from someone like Sierra who once proudly wore the sash and inspired women around the world—hits differently. Now a wife, a mom of two, and a law graduate, Sierra has gracefully transitioned her focus to lifestyle and motherhood. Her YouTube channel continues to thrive, but her message is clear: pageantry has changed, and not necessarily for the better.
As fans, we relate. Pageants like Miss Universe once stood for empowerment, unity, and purpose. If someone like Sierra feels that spirit is fading, then maybe it’s time we all reflect on what these platforms should stand for moving forward.
Still, Sierra Bearchell remains one of the queens we admire most—not just for the titles she earned, but for using her voice to stand for something real. She continues to inspire far beyond the crown.
From Davao to Canada, Pop Davao PH sends love and respect to a queen who made pageantry more meaningful—for us, and for many.
